Preface to table below
In many of the larger developing countries (eg, China, India, Brazil) traditional economic variables such as the availability of cheap labor, access to natural resources and domestic market size will continue to remain prime determinants regarding corporate investment and locational choices. However, relative to the more industrialized countries, other factors and trends are increasing important, as suggested below.
Developed Countrys’ Jurisdictional Characteristics & Trends
Influencing Locational Investment

Extent of complementary knowledge-based local and regional resources

Degree of supportive and transparent commercial, legal and communications infrastructure

Extent of government policies favorable to globalization, private enterprise and innovation

Relative ranking of host country political stability

Relative security regarding terrorism potentials, locationally and politically

Quality and reliability of local and regional infrastructure

Note: The above developed country locational choice trends are evidenced by surveys of the rankings of various countries by business executives as published in EIU’s World Investment 2002, the World Bank, Oxford Intelligence  and  by other leading research groups.
