The New Airport City Master Development Plan
 

The new King Khalid International Airport located near Riyadh, Saudi Arabia was opened in 1983 as the second of three major three major international airports in the kingdom.

The airport layout includes five major terminals and  two 4,140 meter parallel runways with associated taxiways and over 50 aviation administrative and  support facilities. 

Located 35 kilometers north of central Riyadh, the new airport encompasses a land area of over 225 square kilometers. With five major terminals, since its inauguration the new facility has had a capacity to handle 7.5 million passengers a year, a figure which more than doubled by 2001.

The new airport project also included a planned New International Airport City eventually accommodating over 100,000 population along with a 3,000 hectare office and industrial park targeted to serve the rapidly growing aviation related commercial services market.

Dr. J. Michael Cobb was senior principal for Bechtel International and was responsible for planning the new Riyadh International Airport City component of the overall airport development project.
